Ethiopia Visit |

Ethiopia 26th May-9th June 2004
We flew to Ogaden which is located east Ethiopia and is considered the poorest
region populated by nomadic shepherds of Somali origin. This visit is imperative
for an effective charity work. The main aims are to see the progress of digging
one of the wells in Marar region, to look into the programmes of OWDA, which is
a charity organisation based in Ogaden and to pay a visit to an orphanage run by OWDA.
Achievements
During our visit, we witnessed the inauguration of that well and we took some
pictures of it. After visiting the orphanage we realised how important to care
for orphans who have no shelter or anyone to support them. So asked our
assistants there to send us a proposal for establishing an orphanage in Ogaden.
Also, we managed to hold a meeting with one of the UN staff to know the nature
of their work in that region.
In short, we have got a full picture of the nature of charity work in Africa,
particularly in Ethiopia. This site visit was also to build up strong relations
with those we work with, particularly OWDA who showed us their diligence and
persistence in their work. There is a possibility of cooperating with
governmental organisations in the UK in digging more wells like one of the
German organisations which managed to dig 7 wells funded by the German
government.
Prospective Projects
Digging more wells there. We will try contact governmental organisations to help
out. Establishing orphanages. To this, we will try to cooperate with Al-Sanabil
Society in Kwait.
