Refurbishning Al-Hoceima- Hospital (Morocco)

Al-Hoceima is a very beautiful  town at the north coast of Morocco,

with population of about 70,000. It is mainly known as a beach resort.

It is a pleasant place to rest while touring the Rif. Al Hoceima was

built by the Spanish in 1926, after they suppressed a Rif rebellion.

The Spanish influences remain, however most new construction is cheap North African style.

The Plage Quemado is right in the center of town between two massive sea cliffs. There are a couple of quieter beaches a few km out of town on the Nador road. From certain points on this road, you can catch a glimpse of the Spanish-controlled island of Penon de Alhucemas.

On February 24, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Al Hoceima Province at 2:28 AM. local time and aftershocks continue.

The type of material used for the construction of houses and structure,

stones and pize, lacked any structural component that may have mitigated    the damage in such a quake.

The overall results of the quake were grim, with over 600 deaths and some 300 injured.

One of the major and important  places that was hit by the earthquake is the main hospital of  Al-Hoceima

As a result of the visit of the Executive director of WAFA Relief to the area,

WAFA Relief started a project to fund partially the refurbishing of the

 Al-Hoceima hospital.

The project aims to  make the required refurbishing to the main parts of the hospital, and according to an official report from the  committee that has been assigned to that are:

1.    maintenance of the water  swage

2.    Maintenance of the windows and doors

3.    Painting from inside and outside

4.    ground maintenance

5.    Maintenance of the electricity

According to the need to refurbish Al-Hoceima Hospital and the impact that will cause for the benefit for all the people,

WAFA Relief has started  the project to partially fund the refurbishing of the hospital. the project completed end of 2005
