Orphanage Sponsorship Project

Sponsoring Orphaned Children  at Somali Region - Ethiopia

As a part of its mission, WAFA Relief took the responsibility to share in easing the life of poor orphan children who lost their parents. WAFA Relief  with the cooperation with, Ogaden Welfare and Development association(OWDA),  started working on the project to assist and help to bring up some 30 orphaned children in Jijiga Ethiopia.  Accordingly, WAF A Relief will play the role of funding the project and  OWDA play the role of the executive agency of the project and will implement it in collaboration with concerned community and governmental Bureaux of the region.

For the duration of the project,  since sponsoring of orphanage is a social services required for a community, should not necessarily have time limits, but, only for the sake of budgeting, we start with an initial phase of a period of one year. Further extension phase may have a 3-year period each. The cost of implementation of this initial phase of the project is estimated at US$ 41,418. , Eth. Birr 356,192.

Project objectives

The project has two major objectives;

·        To assist and bring up the needy orphans by creating food rations, shelter, clothing, basic education and health services, and

·         To enable the children become economically self-sufficient and self-supportive citizens as well as to enable they determine their own future career through their education.

Project locations and number of beneficiaries

The project will be located at Kabridahar town. Kabridahar is situated some 1000Km east of Addis Ababa Ethiopia. It's accessible both air & surface routes. The town has water and power supplies as well asflourmill service.

Project activities

The major activities of the initial phase of the project will be the following:-

·        Hiring the house from the private sector

·        Screening and placement of beneficiaries in to the program

·         Provision of the basic necessities and services food, shelter clothing, sanitary and health as well as educational services.

Project inputs/resource needed

In order to affect the project, the following resources will be required

A) Personnel

                - Coordinator 1

                - Assistant social workers 2

                - Teachers of holly Qoran 2

                - Cookers 2

                - Guards 2

                - Cleaner   2

B) Equipment, Furniture and tools: of various and quantity.

                              i. Lodging facilities

                              ii. Kitchen Utensils

C) Food and shelter materials: food ration, clothing

Organization and management As the monitor and holder of the project, OWDA will carryout the implementation of the project. Government and community organizations will participate in the project implementation process as required. The day-to-day operation of the project Of the project will be  managed by an administration unit consisting of 11 staff The implementation agency, therefore, will deploy the required staff before the commencement of the operation of the orphanage programmed.

Out puts of the program The majority impacts and / or benefits of the program will be:- ·        Improvement and maintenance of the nutritional status of the needy children at acceptable level and thereby avoiding severe malnutrition; ·         Access to the basic social service (Health, Education ... etc.) to the orphanage children.
